A gentleman was discussing company succession and mentioned that he needed an 'argument' for a negotiation. Of course, I didn’t know the full story, but an internal alarm bell immediately went off. When negotiating with a prospect, I aim for agreement - not for arguments. I share this perspective with all my mentees too. Why? The words "arguments" and "arguing" are very close for a reason. It’s one person against the other. Why would you want to argue with your prospect? You want to agree with them, right? Agree on … their promised land. their challenge at hand. our mutual action plan. their needs, risks and mitigators. our impact, the price tag as well as their RoI. I always aim for a win/win situation—for my prospect and myself. If there’s an issue or my prospect is unsure about something, I simply ask questions: Why do you feel that way? How can we move around this? What can we do to find a good solution moving forward? Agreements > Arguments. In February it will be 6 years since I had a 𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘁. Having talked to many people that suffered a burnout, my observation is that it can be tremendously helpful to get a nudge from people that care about you. It is a common burnout symptom to “try to keep pushing through” and “take care of one self, after X, Y, Z is finished” -> this often significantly prolongs the healing process. Be there for the people you care about and encourage them to take care of themselves now and not when it’s too late. 400.000 to 500.000 Impressions on LinkedIn per week Every day, I engage with numerous entrepreneurs and investors. Often, it is challenging to make them understand that sales are what truly matter. What good is investing millions in a magnificent product if it doesn't sell? So, what is the missing piece? The most fundamental elements: marketing and sales. For the past few months, Quarero Marketing Accelerator has been managing my personal account and the accounts of some of the companies in our Tactical Management portfolio. Entrepreneurs and politics. Always a complicated relation. Now some German entrepreneurs and investors (and LinkedIn VIPs) like Christian Reber and Philipp Klöckner and Christian Miele debate on the role of #AfD in Germany. (sumup: Christian Reber: open to a coalition of AfD and #CDU, if AfD kicks out all facists. Christian Miele adds that a CDU/ #SPD or CDU/Green coalition will cause a lot of compromises that will disappoint voters and drive them towards #AfD in 2029. Hoping for a CDU/ #FDP coalition. Philipp Klöckner personally attacks Reber, stating there is no state to make with fascists.) For all political debates on Linkedin that will for sure come in the next months I would suggest some principles: - entrepreneurs have to be aware of their responsibility in political debates. According to Forsa employers get a high trust of their employees (much more than media and political institutions). Don't throw out things without thinking about it (Source: https://lnkd.in/eRZhM5KQ) - it is wonderful that we start to debate about politics in different facets. Stay open, polite and don't get personal please. No one is stupid, but people may have different opinions. - it is possible to publically say things, that could not be said some months ago. Right positions became passable in the last months (😑). I think it is okay, as in a democracy all opinions from left to right must be communicable and heard. Blaming others for political positions is not democratic (as long as statements are morally justifiable and do not violate basic laws - what in many cases was violated by AfD politicians) - no citations of politicians that are facists officially - however, I'm fully disappointed how the #startup community debates here. Not more than easiest color debates and gut guessing. Let's fight for and against arguments and ideas of political parties. Lets base our statements based on statistics and numbers (shouldn't be hard for investors 😉 ) - don't delete statements afterwards, just because you got shitstorms afterwards. If you changed your opinions, explain why. - don't let social media agencies write your political comments. - also I'm bit disillusioned that we can't think outside the box. What about opportunities for new parties or emerging parties such as Volt? - It is okay to vote whatever you like to vote as long as a party was accepted for the election. 🍿 Let the show begin
